I was surfing around looking for some local Temp Agencies (God how I hate being unemployed) and I ran across the DFWBlog list. And since I've been working on what is basically a blog app, and living in the DFW area, I gave it a look. Kinda weird looking at random people's blogs, but interesting all the same. Or maybe I've just nothing better to do.
I also got a call from my Dad today. He was looking at the site. He seemed to think that maybe my site is a little unprofessional, that maybe employers coming across this site would be put off by some of the things on here. I hope not. That is surely not the intention of this site. I consider my webpage to be just a little public display of personality.
I enjoy expressing myself in html and perl.

Finally! New Soprano's episode
Sunday, September 15 9:36PM CDT 2002
Whew. Finally, a new Sopranos episode. One of the few new (well, relatively) shows that I've really gotten into since .. Well, a while. Sopranos is up there with The Simpsons for me.
And in other news, I think I've finished the first stage in my XMLJourn project. The view script seems to be working, supporting all of the features of the old script, with MANY new features that doing a complete re-write and changing my datafile to XML allow. I'm going to repackage my old version with the new view script and the datafile conversion script tomorrow, and then it is on to the last stage of the project, completing the new configuration script. I've dumped a lot of my time into this over the past week, but time is what I've got the most of right now anyway. My job search is ongoing. Looks like I'm going to be having some insurance troubles within a month or so, so my stress level on the job search is steadily rising. Grr.

Does this mean I'm officially an OpenSource developer now?
Tuesday, September 10 3:42PM CDT 2002
I created a SourceForge project for the newest version of my journal/weblog script, XMLJourn! I'm about 1/3 of the way done with the newest implementation, but my translation script is fully workable to convert the old script datafile, so feel free to download the new version as it becomes available .. Or try out the newest version here. AND (fresh from the xmljourn README file) here are the CGI parameters currently working: [Ed. .... Big Preformatted Area used to be here, but it threw off the format of my webpage, so I removed it. Go to the XMLJourn page if you'd like to see it.] [Note, for those of you unfamiliar with CGI, the parameters are used like so: "http://whateverurl.com/xmljourn.cgi?[param1]=[value1]&[param2]=[value2]&[param3]=[value3]"

mm. XML.
Friday, September 6 4:40AM CDT 2002
That's me. It's 4:30am and I'm up working on this XML hack for my journal script. I've managed to get the XML, DTD and XSL documents working pretty well. Try it out here (note, you'll need IE 5.5 or higher to see the XSL formatted document, Mozilla just shows the raw data)[addendum: Try this link for a html file parsed from the XML with the perl XML::XSLT module.. it's missing some formatting, but is about right] .. I'm up too late, but this is damn cool.

Hmm. Discourse. Lunch.
Thursday, September 5 2:31PM CDT 2002
I think I figured out how to reheat chinese food today. Being hungry and poor is a great motivator. Normally, chinese food just doesn't microwave all that well. It is never as good as when it was first prepared. I don't know why. Maybe it has something to do with the fat/grease content not solidifying like other foods, I don't know. But at any rate, I think I figured out a way to reheat it and have it for lunch, without losing too much flavor. The trick is to reheat it constantly throughout the meal. Dump it in the microwave for a bit to warm up the top part, eat the top part, then nuke it again, just eating the warmed parts, repeat until done. Works fairly well. Just be sure to eat the steamed rice before the 3rd or 4th nuke, because it seems to dry out pretty quickly.
